Unless you are a breeder or intend to breed your pet, the decision to spay or neuter is an important part of wellness care for your pet’s long term health. In addition to reducing the homeless pet population, getting your pet spayed or neutered has many benefits, including:
- Improves your pet’s longevity
- reduces aggressive and wandering behaviors as well as “marking”
- reduces the risk of pyometra (a fatal uterine infection) as well as some cancers of the reproductive system
Spay and neuter procedures at Integrative Animal Hospital of Central Florida are safe and routine. In females, the ovaries are removed with a laparoscopic spay. We also offer traditional spays, in which both ovaries and uterus are removed.
Neutering a male pet involves the removal of both testicles. Integrative Animal Hospital of Central Florida recommends pets get their spay or neuter surgery after at least one year of age.
